Gregory A. Hearing is a Shareholder. He has practiced management labor and employment law for his entire career representing local and national management clients in a variety of matters before courts, arbitrators and state and federal administrative agencies.
Greg is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The University of the South where he graduated magna cum laude in 1986. He received his law degree from the Florida State University College of Law cum laude in 1989, where he served on the Florida State University Law Review. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hillsborough County Bar Association. Greg chaired the Hillsborough County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section in 1997-1998, and chaired The Florida Bar Practice Management and Development Section in 1998-2000. He has served on the Executive Council of the Labor and Employment Law Section of The Florida Bar since 2001 and served as Chair of the in 2011 – 2012. Greg has been Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by The Florida Bar since the inception of board certification for labor and employment and has previously served as Chair of the Board Certification Committee for Labor and Employment Law. Greg has been Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Civil Trial since 2007 and in Education Law since 2012. Greg was appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to a 5 year term as a Member of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners in November 2011. Greg served as the Board’s Vice-Chair and Chair 2014-2016. Greg was selected as a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 2011 and a Fellow of the American Bar Association in 2014.
Greg has achieved an “AV” rating in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, been recognized as one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine, one of the Top 100 Attorneys in Florida by Super Lawyers, and is consistently listed in the The Best Lawyers in America publication. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court. He is a frequent lecturer and has authored many papers on labor and employment related topics.
Mr. Hearing is an active member of the community and is involved in many civic endeavors. He currently serves as a trustee of The University of the South. He served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at St. John’s Episcopal Day School from 2009 to 2010 and 2014 to 2016 and was a member of the board from 2004 to 2010 and again from 2012 to present. Greg has served and chaired the boards of other local non-profit agencies including Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, Inc., Bright Horizons of Tampa Bay, Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Inc. (where he was selected as Big Brother of the Year in 1993 and 2001) as well as the United Way. He has been a volunteer coach at YMCA of Greater Tampa for many years. He has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tampa Bay since 1990. He is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tampa and has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida (Labor & Employment Law) since 1991.
