Thomas M. Gonzalez is a Shareholder and founding member of  the firm.  Since graduation in 1975, Tom has been engaged in the private practice of law, exclusively representing management clients throughout the State of Florida, in matters of labor relations, equal opportunity law, wage and hour law, and all employment and personnel related matters.  He has tried cases in state and federal courts in several districts of Florida and other states.  He has argued before the state appellate courts and the Fifth, Sixth, Eleventh and D.C. District Courts of Appeals.  Those cases involved a variety of matters including race, age, religious, national origin and sex discrimination, sexual harassment, alleged violations of ADA, ERISA violation, wrongful terminations, breach of contract, bid violations, First Amendment, Florida Whistleblower Act, FLSA, FMLA violations, and funding of construction and infrastructures.   Tom has served as the City Attorney for the City of Tampa, School Board Attorney for the School Board of Hillsborough County, and General Counsel for the Florida College System Risk Management Consortium.

Tom is recognized by his peers as an outstanding lawyer and a Bar leader.  Tom has served on the Executive Council of The Florida Bar’s Labor and Employment Law Section. He served as President of the Tampa/Hillsborough County Bar Association in 1984/1985, and is a past member of the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar (1988-1991).  He is Board Certified in Education Law.  He has authored many articles on the subject of personnel and labor management administration, labor law and discrimination law.  Tom has also spoken many times on those same subjects to various professional and business groups including The Florida Bar, the Florida Public Employer Labor Relations Association, American Arbitration Association, ASPA, and AMA.

Tom has been rated an “AV” lawyer, the highest rating bestowed by Martindale-Hubbell, since 1980.  He has been identified as one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine.  He currently is listed in the publication Best Lawyers in America, and has been listed in every edition since 1987.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and an associate of the American Board of Trial Attorneys.

Tom has been honored by the Hillsborough County Bar Association which awarded him the Michael A. Fogarty “In the Trenches Award” (2001) given for excellence in civil litigation, and the Herbert G. Goldberg Award for his “distinguished legal career,” by The Florida Bar as the “Most Productive Young Lawyer,” by The Florida Bar Labor and Employment Section for his “stellar performance in continuing legal education,” by the Florida Conference of County Court Judges “Appreciation Award,” and by the Tampa Legal Secretary Association as its “Boss of the Year.”
